Start of Cheyenne Super option?
Since I have a 71 Super myself I have been researching this but haven´t found anything else than it was a 71 model year introduction. Reason why I wonder is that the Super option is not mentioned in the 71 sales broschure.
http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/stati...ickups-06.html Was it a late 71 introduction and do someone on here know how late it was?

Re: Start of Cheyenne Super option?
It was a late introduction with an April 71 release. There was a seperate brochure specific to the Cheyenne Super dated March 71.

Re: Start of Cheyenne Super option?
Thanks Tim, that was exact the answer I was looking for.
Released in April 71 would possibly make it a pretty low production number option?

Re: Start of Cheyenne Super option?
Too true! Real 71 Cheyenne Supers are few and far between. Its also probably my favorite interior. A 71 Cheyenne Super with vinyl buckets and the woodgrain just has a great look that to me the 72's door panels just don't pull off. While we are dreaming lets put it in a C30 stepside Black on Black.

Re: Start of Cheyenne Super option?
Excellent information, I will definately save the documents you posted.
I don´t really know the authenticity of my 71 if it is a real Super or not since the SPID is missing. I don´t even know if it is a 71 or 72 actually. It has a 71 VIN but there are some 72 only details on it such as the window mounted rear view mirror and no raised area in the metal, 72 doors and panels, 72 only big block motor mounts. It does have the 71 VIN on a rosette riveted vin plate, 71 only Cheyenne Super emblem (without scroll) on glove box door. Thanks.

Re: Start of Cheyenne Super option?
So,how did this relate to GMCs,since the Sierra Grandes were already out...yet not with the exclusive trim details found on Cheyenne Supers, yet? Did GMC just start adding those features when Chevy came out with the Cheyenne Super?
I saw last year a definite '71 Cheyenne Super with that typed on the SPID but with the Z81 code. so,it can be tough to bonify a '71 Cheyenne Super. Ones you think are faked could very well be the real deal.

Re: Start of Cheyenne Super option?
Here is the SPID on my 71. Its real, I tracked it back to the original owner and even got a Polaroid of the truck back in 1971.
