'58 Color choices...help me decide!
I'm about 10 days out from shooting my 58 GMC 4x4 and I'm waffling on the color! I was planning all along to paint it the 2014 Ford Race Red, but having second thoughts as I have two other red rigs. I've spent about a year meticulously doing bodywork and it's looking really straight. Down to the final primer block sanding now.
So...I'm thinking either a yellow orange or possibly a cream color. Solid, not metallic. Got pics of your favorite colors?

Very cool. Been thinking long and hard on that orange. Dodge has a great orange on their new Chargers.
I'm going elk hunting for a few days, so no internet. Will check back on Monday.

Re: '58 Color choices...help me decide!
Mine was Baltic Blue when I got it, repaint over original lighter blue. I was going to stay with that, but have cycled thru Plum Crazy, Prower Orange Metallic, Daytona Blue and finally decided on Sherwood Green. Depends on the theme you want, mine is original exterior look, poverty caps. skinny logger truck tires.

My vote is for fire engine red. Course you got a four eyes.... Good luck with the Wapiti, I'm headed to Montana for Antelope in a few weeks. (lot easier to drag out!)

Pictures of some colors I have saved because I really liked them: This last one is the color I will be shooting for IF I don't paint it red. No joke, all along I've been planning to paint it red even though it's this Rustoleum rattle can color now: Well, the iOS 8 just screwed up. My truck obviously ISNT the last photo. It's the green one nose down in the driveway.

Re: '58 Color choices...help me decide!
Look up the original colors. I would do Omaha orange. There was also a red and yellow choice. I plan on choosing one of the original 2 tone schemes for my 59. Look for original DuPont chips on ebay and you might find some. I have bought 2 sets that way.

Re: '58 Color choices...help me decide!
someone must have been military or deep south at one time, 3 of his choices were olive drab
the stock colors were pastel or at least the red, blue and yellow red and black are the most often used colors at shows for classic vehicles, a little over used imo youngrodder has an excellent green on his truck, yellow is a bad idea ( i like being the only yellow at the show )

Re: '58 Color choices...help me decide!
I had my rims powder coated with super wet red and then matched the body or soon to be painted with a color to match the rims. Its equivelant to a victory red. I see a lot of reds here and I say red.

Re: '58 Color choices...help me decide!
I'm back...thanks for your input! I spent lots of time thinking about the color while up hunting. Still have not made a decision!
The last pic is the cream color I was talking about. I think this would look very retro. Almost looks metallic?

Dyno, that little red 4x you posted just sings. I did mine red because of remembering my Dads red '57, and I always wanted a red truck. How was the Elk hunt, any fresh liver?

Yep, the red sings. I had a red 58 GMC 30 years ago, so I get the sentimental thing. Problem is I drive a red f350 service truck and have an '85 GMC flatbed ranch truck. My wife even says anything but red. Today, i was in the mood to do BLACK. Like the bad ass rig I posted earlier. I would need to do AC in the thing for sure if I went that route.

Re: '58 Color choices...help me decide!
10-4 on the hot weather, sometimes our deer opener in So Cal sees 100deg! Luckily I have a big mountain, nearby, with some nice bucks on it at 8000ft. I went thru the color choice problem with my 55, even painted the tailgate and lived with it for a few days! The powder blue was like a 74 Chev pickup I had years ago, I liked it, but it didn't sing.....

Re: '58 Color choices...help me decide!
These old trucks take on very different personalities with different colors. I know red is kinda played, but there is nothing like a TF truck with a nice red dress on, IMHO.

Re: '58 Color choices...help me decide!
Dyno,
What red is that? There's lots of good ones to choose from. Red has been my plan from the beginning on my truck, I don't care if anyone else thinks it's played out, they're not paying for it and they're not driving it. But I keep coming back to a soft vintage green more or less how I've already rattle canned it but lighter PS: Tell us about your home setup. Compressor size, your water filter/separator setup, gun and type of paint please. I REALLY wonder about buying a $500 Turbo spray system vs. using my 60 gallon upright Harbor Freight compressor with cheap TP Tools HVLP gun.

Re: '58 Color choices...help me decide!
Hey Dan. It's Ford red, code PQ, found on the newer mustangs and trucks. I decided on single stage PPG Essential. I'm using a large compressor with a Air Gunza HVLP gun, running through a 2 stage water seperator, TP style filter and bulb filter at the gun for added insurance. The fenders turned out like glass, but I wasn't watching my air pressure on the cab and ended up with some orange peel which I am in the process of cutting and buffing as we speak.
