Original Chevy grille?

I'd like to buy an NOS grille for my 87. I tried ebay and the grill I got couldn't even withstand being in place properly without splitting. Some things you just don't skimp on, apparently the grille is one of them. Makes sense.

Anyway, is anyone aware of a someplace that is selling new old stock original grilles? Looking for an original GM part.

I bought an aftermarket grille from Rock Auto and it is surprisingly a good reproduction of an original. Also bought a GMC grille and not sure if I can even use it. I have an NOS Chevy that I am saving for a project and they are pretty close. That being said, you are right, NOS is the best you can get. They were both inexpensive so I took a chance.

As for this reply, I was under the impression that LMC didn't really sell NOS parts. I really don't know. Can anyone confirm if they ever do it?

I bought a NOS one on eBay a few moths back. Be prepared to fight for them though. The amount of truck parts getting bought up and sent over to the Middle East is staggering.

LMC is a longshot to have any NOS. You might check Wes at Classic Heartbeat or GMCPaul. Both are members here and may be able to find you a grill.

It also might be worth giving a call or email to Jim Carter Truck Parts. He deals primarily in older stuff, but might have something for you.

Yeah lmc and brothers both are pretty much repop parts.Like said for nos parts a few forum members can get them.Or talk to your local gm dealership you never know what they have tucked away in the back.

Were the grilles painted from the factory? Or was it just that cast-in plastic color?

So in other words, if I do buy a NOS grille, will I have to have it painted in order for it to look original.

My NOS and repop are both already the proper silver (argent) color and both have the little polished stainless pieces on the outer ends.

Skunksmash use GM #15553636 and search ebay or the internet. Those are the van 4 headlight grilles and they come up more often than the pick up ones. Nearly a drop-in replacement with only minor holes to be drilled up top otherwise exactly the same.
