454 swap..
hey i found a rebuilt 454 here in town for a great price..ready to swap...
what all could i expect to have to change to get this in my 81...there is currently a 327 with a th350..2.73 rear gears... im gonna look at the engine this week, hopefully tomm.... are there things i should look for concerning the 454 specifically never really messed with one. i would think that the th350 would get crushed with the 454 torque and power.....so i am thinking that i could get a th400 to go with it..."since i found one of those also"... how would i know if i needed a short or long shaft? what else should i expect to have to change... looking forward to your tips... thanks, anthony |

You can start your grocery list with
Brackets and pulleys (PS pump) Headers Waterpump Fuel system Radiator (4 row) Turbo 400 and new converter Motor mounts After you finish with all that you probably will need regular rear tire replacements

Engine mouns are the same or a 350 and 454.
Otherwise Airmale listed pretty much everything. Good luck and keep us posted. ...Jeff |

can i use my existing ps pump, alt, and A/C compressor...
do i need to change pulleys on those.. i have been told that a th350 will holp up the the 454 as long as i dont do any towing or heavy hauling... i plan on having the th350 rebuilt shortly after installing the 454. i guess i can just beef it up...or would it be cheaper to get a th400 and rebuild it? so many questions, so little time!

you can use all of those accessories, but you will need to use 454 brackets for them. I would use the 400, as if you are making any power, it will kill the TH350 in a hurry.

Hey Anthony, not to hi-jack this thread, but are you going to the Street Legal drags this Sunday at No Problem? I may go, it depends on the shape my truck is in. I got a tach and gears coming this week.

I put a big block in my 79.Only thing you need is the motor the motor towers are the same, the water pump pulley i found was the same.you can use the small block PS pump, youll just need the big block AC brackets, crank pulley,ps brackets, alt brackets.your T350 will be fine,as long as you arent doing weekely drag racing,or heavy towing. If you have any questions email me
