1963 Power Steering Windshield Decal

A while back I posted pictures of a 1963 truck Im going to restore. One of the unique things about the truck was it still had the factory PS Decal still in the windshield.

Well, I was on a pick Wednesday in an old Chevy dealer and found this NOS power steering kit in the un opened box. When I returned home I looked up the part number and it showed up as a 1963 PS Kit for 10 series. Un stapled the box and on the bottom was this decal.

That is cool. Do you think it was the same for other years? Are you selling the steering kit?

Nothing Norm. Read the booklet cover to cover . Instructions dated 9-24-62 . Pretty early kit.

.
.Sorry, with having 5 1963s It will be put to good use. Not to sure on the other later years since I believe this was "Chevrolet Trucks" Introduction year to power steering . I know it was available for GMCs prior to 63 but I cant find anything for Chevy in my 1962 and earlier Data books, in my 1963 Data book it states new for 1963.

That's the plan Bruce, I doubt even this original one would look to good as is. At least now we have something to copy.

Re: 1963 Power Steering Windshield Decal

Interesting ZipLoc bags in 63!
Cough, Cough, a copy of the widow decal would be real nice! You know me and my obsession.
Could you post the part number on the box please.
This power steering accessory is an ordering mystery as there's no provision on the 1963 light duty order sheet for installation from the factory and, there is no mention of a power steering accessory from the 63 Custom Accessories Book.
1966 has an RPO listed as N40 in the light duty, same RPO for the heavy duty trucks.

Round cardboard display hung from the mirror at the dealership.

Re: 1963 Power Steering Windshield Decal

Ha! Zip lock bags..... Good catch Norm. The paper bag was ripped open and I collected all the little pieces and the decal right away and put them in baggies to protect them. I will post pics later but look in the 1963 data book. It explains 63 power steering there.

Thanks guys, Was in total shock to open the box and see the sticker just laying on the bottom of the box. We had discussed the sticker before but no one really knew what it looked like to duplicate it. Will take it to a few local shops and see if we cant make it available to the 63 nuts interested .

Re: 1963 Power Steering Windshield Decal

Glad you were able to get and save the PS kit, you certainly deserve it, for all you do to help us fellow owners. The pictures were great! Good luck with your restorations.

I have been gathering a few more parts for our 64' to reassemble all the frame and cab components, before sending frame/chassis and cab for cleaning. Hope to have most everything by end of October.

As always thanks for sharing your knowledge,
Les

No problem, soon as I get them done I will post. Theres several unique details I want to get exact. This will be the key.

It will only work on 2 wheel drive. They did not make a 4x4 PS kit 63-66 . You could get it in 1967 but that will be tough to find. The cylinder, bracket hoses are all different for 4x4. The engine part is the easy part of that conversion.
