Blower motor keeps burning out

I have replaced the AC blower motor three times. On each occasion I would smell something burning in the AC vents. after about three hours of runtime the blower motor would just give up.
Any of you guys know where I should start first ?
what could be causing the blower motor to burn up?

Did you replace blower motor resistor?

No, I have not replaced anything other than the blower. The speeds hi, med and low all work as they should. Think it may be worth a shot to just replace resistor anyway?

Check the fan ground. It may not be grounding properly.

Re: Blower motor keeps burning out

Are you getting the motors from the same place? It is possible they have a bad batch. If these are all warranty replacements from the 1st one, verify the initial sales person pulled up the correct part number.

Check the voltage the the motor with the fan switched on.

Make sure the blower motor is getting a good ground. My 75 had a braided strap from one of the retaining screws to the fender.

My 83 had the same setup. It went out just like the OP said, and all I had to do was clean up the ground and it worked great. Replacing the resistor is a good idea anyway, it's like $10.
