1979 GMC street coupe build thread

Hello everyone. I have just purchased a 1979 gmc street coupe on ebay a couple of weeks ago and it is on it's way to the middle east as we speak.

It has the original paint, stepside, 454 from the factory.

I am planning to replace all the body parts (fenders, doors, hood, tailgate) and have the rest sandblasted.

The motor was recently rebuilt and runs perfects, I will decide if it needs an overhaul when it reaches me.

I have a couple of concerns about the truck. The first issue is the colors. I have been looking for the color codes for the 2 colors plus the colors for the stripes. I was thinking of getting the stripes custom made since it is impossible to find a whole set of NOS stripes.

The other concern is the grill. From the photos it looks that the grill is matte black and has no chrome except for the horizontal strips and the GMC badge. If I am correct, it would be easy to just have the grill painted with the same color to make it look like new again (NOS grilles sell for a lot these days).

Other than that the truck looks in good shape, stock and unmolested.

Here are some pics, everyone loves pics...

Thanks in advance and hope to get some help. This site is great!

Thanks for the link! I do have a vinyl shop I like to deal with but the problem is matching the exact colors. I was wondering if anyone has color codes for the stripes
