4X4 hub type
Hi Folks,
I looked but cannot find an explanation as to the different hub styles. I have a 1972 4X4 pickup. I have Dana 44-5f front axel. It is a 3/4 ton pickup. It has the cone type front hubs. I wonder what if any difference there is with the blue rounded type hubs. Thanks again for the help, Russ |

Re: 4X4 hub type
The blue actuator dial "big hub" Spicer's are OEM for a 3/4t 72 K20 so equipped as shown here

Re: 4X4 hub type
Can you post a pic of your hubs? To my knowledge, those shown above are the only optional front locking hubs offered for the 72 model year. You might be able to locate a used set. Nice, intact blue hub dials are hard to find.

Re: 4X4 hub type
I agree that they either had the Spicer blue knob or they had the plate that was locked all the time. I would like to see pics of your cone style too

Re: 4X4 hub type
Are you sure someone didn't change the hubs early on? The cone style you are talking about sound like warn hubs.

Re: 4X4 hub type
If I can figure out how to post a pic I will. Probably get my son to help me. But the mount for the hub is tapered. The blue ones are even all the way back to the axle if that makes sense. I need to take a picture
