what donor frame for 46 chevy 1/2 ton shortbed
Hopefully finally picking this project up from my buddys place very soon. I was originally going to do a rat rod bobber style truck from it but the sheet metal is so clean I hate to chop it up. It`s all there body wise but missing the frame. I was going to do a custom 2x3 chassis but plans have changed. Not sure I want to do the s-10 route. I`d prefer a original frame to use as a foundation. I know 41-46 will got right in but what else? With the 47-54 frames work?

The pre 47 stuff is narrower. If you have the ability to cut and weld, building a frame may be you best bet especially if you are going to do any dramatic suspension upgrades ie dropping it. A buddy of mine has a frame out and on the ground. I could take some detailed pics and measurements from critical areas if that's the direction you go.

I intend to make my own 2x3 frame for my 45 hopefully later this year. I've never done a full frame but there's lots of good info available on the ole world-wide-web, and even plans. Looks like it's pretty easy and straight-forward.

Re: what donor frame for 46 chevy 1/2 ton shortbed
I have no problem building a frame. Never done a full frame but I have the skills to do it, and i do have plans I bought off of ebay. The thing is the plans I have are for acertain type of frame and it would be almost impossible to adapt it to use the full length bed and full front sheet metal. I would have to start from scratch and figured a oem type frame would be easier.

Anthony go over to kill billet and look under 40 trucks. There is a guy who has built several 40s on Isuzu frames and swears it's an easy swap

Re: what donor frame for 46 chevy 1/2 ton shortbed
Thanks. I`ve been over there for a while and read his threads. The Isuzu frames are the same as S10`s. I really didnt want to do the S10 frame but might be my only option if I cant find a original. I`ve got plenty of time though, the body is still at my friends house and isnt going anywhere so Im not too worried.
