Setting 4 link ride height
I am ready to install my wishbone 4 link on s10 frame and am confused on how to set the ride height, I don't have my 1949 body mounted but know I am gonna use Re7 airbags front and rear and I am gonna run 245/35/r20 tires so 26.75 overall diameter. I wanna be able to lay it out when parked but want it to be drivable. I just need to know how to set my initial ride height when I put it on the jackstands
thanks |

Re: Setting 4 link ride height
From what I have learned and am still learning...you need to know the ride height of the Re7 and the deflated height. Placement of your bag brackets so it will lay when deflated will then dictate your ride height with the " at ride height Re7" spec's figured into the bracket placement. Example: at a 5" frame from ground ride height with a bag that's ride height is 7 inches but deflates to 3, the upper bracket will travel down 4 inches until it stops (layed). The frame would be at 1" off the ground. You will need to "set" your upper and lower brackets knowing 1: where you have room to do this( not in the way of the 4 link, gas tank etc) 2: where you can mechanically lay it ( fender trimming, c notching ..whats going to get in the way etc) and 3: what the spec's for the bags are...inflated at ride height and deflated height.

Re: Setting 4 link ride height
1. Set your truck at the height you want using jack stands.
2. Set up your four link with the angles you want. 3. Lay the truck out and put your upper bag mount so that it is able to fit the compressed bag between your upper and lower mounts. Ideally you would want the bag to be at its designed height when it is aired up to ride height but if laying out is the first goal then set your bags up as listed above.

Re: Setting 4 link ride height
I am assuming that is a question. Try to add some punctuation because its hard to understand what you are trying to say/ask.
I would set the front to your ride height first. The LCA should be about parallel to the ground for best handling. Then match the back to the same height. Unless you are looking for a specific height for some reason (need a lot of clearance to clear tires when turning or something).

Re: Setting 4 link ride height
Sorry to clarify, what height should the frame to ground measurement be when I put the frame on jackstands I don't have the tires or rims yet.

Re: Setting 4 link ride height
I'd set your spindle and axle height at 13.5 inches (half your tire) then level your control arms with the ground then level your frame. That is ideal.
If you just want a number. I'd go with 6 inches. I've had cars as low as 3.5 inches and it drug on everything.

Re: Setting 4 link ride height
You want your 4-link arms parallel with the ground at ride height. Set your pinion angle before you weld your 4-link plates to axle.
