87 ball joints to a 66 control arm?

I'm wondering why I try to do things the hard why.
Most that convert to disk brakes just remove and replace the whole A-Frame, or buy a kit..
But I'm in the same process and I'm looking at this another way.
I have the whole front clip from a 87 as parts.. and I was going to move them onto a 66 C-10.
So I was thinking if someone who's done what I'm thinking might be able to answer a few questions.
Why cant I press the upper and lower ball joints out of the 66 control arms. Replace the ball joints with a 87 ball joint, add the 87 spindle and disk rotor.. and I'm good to go.
Do 87 ball joints fit into a 66 control arm?

Re: 87 ball joints to a 66 control arm?

Yes you can put the 87 upper and lower ball joints in the 66 a-arms. Then use the 87 spindle. See note 3 on the below link.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...57&postcount=3 Look at the very top where it says "63-66 truck with:

63-66 Crossmember Installed: "

If you are using the 66 steering linkage, then you will have to use an adapting sleeve to use the 87 outer tie rod to the 66 inner tie rod. Or, you can use the complete 87 linkage (except pitman arm if staying manual steering).

Lots of good info in the sticky posted at the top of the page. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=444823

If you are replacing the rotors and calipers, be aware that there are 2 versions, a Light Duty (LD) which is 1" thick and a Heavy Duty (HD) that is 1.25" thick.
