Re: Cameo???

It was just a bed option in the mid to late 50's. Very nice looking option.

Re: Cameo???

I've read what they did to the truck etc. but are they listed somewhere as cameo and where on the vehicle does it say cameo. I've seen people think their 60 or 61 4x4 is Napco (false) and now I'm seeing people think their old fleetside is a cameo just cause it has a different bed. Just thought all you knowledgable guys could shed some light on the subject. Is it listed on the vin plate or the spec plate?

Re: Cameo???

Google image search is your friend. First one is a cameo, second is a fleetside. Two totally different beds. Both look awesome! But a cameo is a little cooler to me.

Let me ask again cause maybe I wasn't clear --- Is there anywhere on the vehicle that says "cameo"??? Vin #, spec plate! frame #'s, or a badge.

there was 60-61 napcos,62 63 64 65 66 67 68 69 70 71 etc just 1 ton or bigger remember napco was a company that provided the axles ,transfercase at the factory or dealerships. also you could buy the kit in a crate and do the work yourself to a 1/2 or 3/4 ton

Hey Jkirn - how's it going? I know about the bigger trucks but was just trying to make a point if you get my drift. Hope all is well!

Glad to hear it. Not to change the subject but do you know where to get front drums for a 60 k20? Found a place that carries 61's but not sure if they're the same. How's your truck? It's such an inspiration for me!

Re: Cameo???

Thanks - I thought so but wasn't 100% sure and didn't want to spend the high $'s with any uncertainty. There's a 62 k20 (basket case) for sale not too far from me that I'd like to pick up but can't seem to pull the trigger on it. Got too much to do to mine!

Re: Cameo???

Chevrolet S-10 Cameo - Chevrolet made a limited production of the Cameo S-10 from '89 to '91. The package included Cameo decals, a sport suspension, complete ground effects kit (including diving lights and a roll pan), and high-back bucket seats, although some models lacked the gound effects and high-back buckets. In 1990 the 4.3L V6 was added as standard equipment boosting power to about 185 hp. The trucks feature 15x7 ralley wheels wrapped in P215/65R-15 Goodyear Eagle GT rubber. The sticker price on a loaded S-10 ran about $16,000.

A while back someone posted a pic from a CL ad that showed a junk AD truck with the back half of a Camero attached for the bed. There were a lot of jokes made about it and the term "cameo camero" was probably thrown out. That might be where you saw that.

Re: Cameo???

Ogre,
Something tells me that is not a stock truck. I thought Cameo's ran from 55-57? These are step side boxes with fiberglass outer fenders. the 58 and newer trucks were a true fleetside box with the inner wheel well fenders. so a four-eyed cameo shouldn't exist.

Oh, and if you live in Canada, Cameo's can not be verified by serial numbers. Not sure about the US trucks.

To answer the first post question, in 55 there wasn't much for markings, the 56-57 were dressier, and had the Cameo badge on the front of the box side as shown above. they had a Trunk style spare tire carrier, they were short boxes, and I'd like to say they all had the Big Back Window.
Cameo's were the Denali of the 50's

Fiberglass bedsides and a cool rear fold down spare tire carrier. Here's my buddies '57 Cameo next to my Buick.
