454 BBC for the one tonner's new locomotivation!

So, I looked through craigslist again today...

Found this 1982 Winnebago motorhome right down the road for $700 and decided to go buy it; 77,000 on the clock and the 454 runs like new. More neat stuff!

Kind of funny to think I'm going to be nearly doubling the displacement...

That's the nice thing about motorhomes. They typically don't have a lot of miles on them. You'll also have the TH400 or TH475 and all the C30 running gear. That MH should also have hydroboost brakes.

Yep, all kinds of nice extras came with it; good TH400 for something, another hydroboost setup, another front end, another 14 bolt rear, giant front and rear sway bars, a/c setup, etc.

Nice score, low mileage and great price plus lots of heavy duty parts.

Then you just have to figure out how to get rid of the rest of it...

Just phone a wrecker, most junk yards will be happy to have to scrap for weight. Nice to find a low mile big block for that cheap.

Around here don't want anything to do with motorhomes. The body is mostly wood, glass and plastic covered with aluminum.

I used to have a neighbor that parted out travel trailers and motorhomes. He recycled all the metal he could and the rest went to the dump. He had to pay at the dump, but if you're scrapping just one you may get away without paying.

Seems to vary. I haven't really looked into it yet to determine the best route, but if nothing else I'll just scrap the metal stuff and haul the rest to the dump like that. Might be an excuse to finally fix the loader for my little tractor...

I'm liking the purchase so far.

You might also have a nice tilt steering column with no ignition on the column that you can swap out. I bought just the engine/trans and column out of an old motor home. Captainfab actually mentioned it on another forum about the tilt column and that's how I knew to look for that when I went to look at the motor.

Yeah it does, I forgot about that.
