Leg room

Question for the experts: for years I have had the dream of purchasing a 67-72 C10 and the time has finally come. I found an untouched 1970 C10 but found these trucks are not friendly for tall people. I am 6' 5", 240. Test driving my right calf was cramping while braking and gas. This would not be comfortable for long or short drives. Is this a lost cause for us tall guys without massive modifications? Thanks for the help.

I have also been told the 1973 and up have more room but the dream would not be the same

I remember in one thread where a guy modified the brake pedal arm, so the arm didn't stick so far out. As far as the gas pedal, there is different options you can do such as Lokar.

There is another thread recently that the owner was talking about extending the floor area around the pedals. Not sure what he came up with in the end, or if he is still trying.

Welcome to the board. You'll probably get the most leg room by changing out or altering your seat. I have seen threads where guys have done different things to get leg room. A steering wheel change or adding tilt could help too.

I'm 6'1 and when I first sat behind the wheel of my truck before I bought it, I thought that it was going to be very uncomfortable to drive. It was a little tight at first, but after a while It doesn't seem bad and I don't even notice it anymore.

I'm 6'4 a little heavier than you. You can change out the seat, which might help some. But as 1972BlueC20 said, after a while, I don't even notice.

im 6'3" around 200 lbs my 69 has seats from a 2000 silverado people may say its too big of a seat but it sits lower when your butts in the seat i have way more room then the factory seat

You are the only person I have seen who doesn't think those seats are too big for the cab. I'm glad they work for you but the general consensus is they are too thick as in the seat backs putting your chest closer to the steering wheel

I would like to see some measurements say from the face of the seat to the center of the steering wheel and gauge bezel

If I could get a torn up set of those seats I would like to experiment with chopping the tops and possibly making the frame work of the seat thinner allowing it to go back farther

Early 90s seats are by far the thinnest seat to get you off the steering wheel

Another person I have seen used a van tilt column and somehow pushed it farther forward creating slightly more room

Also don't get excited about gas tank relocation you gain nothing as far as can space

Finally I cannot confirm but I was watching an espn 30 for 30 about Shawn Bradley and I'm pretty sure he was driving a 67-72. And he is 7'6"!

Anything can be done if you got the time resources or cash!

I'm 6'5" and about 235 so I feel your pain. While not the most comfortable I make due and it's not nearly as bad as I originally thought it would be. My plans are to collapse the steering column and adjust the pedals back some. Between that and different set of seats should get me a little more comfort. A bench from a '88-98 truck is probably the easiest and most effective way to gain more comfort.

6'4" , just over 200 , x3 on the 88-94 seat , I also cut and angled the 88-seat brackets to lay the seat back & down slightly. It is definitly cramped by today's standards, but comfortable and you get used to it. These trucks are from another time, isn't that why we drive them?

Mine are blazer bottoms with fiero backs with headrests cut off.The fiero backs are pretty thin along with a 14 1/2" camaro wheel and tilt column. I am 6-4 and fit good.

I'm 6'3" 200lbs and have never felt cramped in my stock 67 with bench seat. I guess I don't drive more than 30mins at a time though. Maybe try eat a banana? That was always the go to in high school for cramps.

I'm 6'5 and I feel fine in my 68. It has 1980 Camaro buckets in it right now and everyone always says I looked cramped but I don't feel it. My little brother has an all stock 71 and I feel fine in that truck too.

I'm 6'3" and ...cough....about 400. But I have short stumpy legs and a long torso. My biggest issue is hitting my head on the ceiling.

I put in Pro Car buckets and customized the frame, and that helped a lot. Actually less legroom though because I sit lower. The original bench My head was 1/2" from the roof, now I'm about 2" from it.

I also installed a Flaming River tilt and shrunk it as far as I could to the dash. That helped a lot with belly room and arm position on the wheel.

Took me a while to get used to driving the truck, ergonomics were very different back then.

Back on the hunt again after hearing from all of you. Lost the first truck I found. If anyone knows of anything for sale in the Savannah, Georgia / Hilton Head, South Caolina / Jacksonville, Florida and between areas don't hesitate with a lead!

Beautiful! Did you pick that up at Moultrie? Not familiar with what a C-25 is, a C20 is a 3/4 ton, is this a one ton?

This is what I was thinking, just get used to it. I'm sure your legs won't be cramping forever. But, I'm sure you mean beyond that, you are basically crammed in there with no option to stretch out more. Are you going to drive it daily or occasionally? Long trips or around town? Point is, it might not matter all that much if it will be a toy getting limited use while most of the time you'll be driving your other vehicle with more leg room. All I know is back then that was just the way it was and people of all sizes drove these trucks and I don't recall anyone complaining till more recently. I'm 5' 10", so I can't speak for your comfort. I know all the years I've driven these trucks the seat is always all the way back. I only slide it forward to unbolt the rear seat mount bolts. But I'm plenty comfortable

It's a GMC and he meant to say C2500. They shortened it up to 15, 25, 35, I believe in '76(?), then both Chevy and GMC went to 1500, 2500, 3500 in '88.

you could always cut out a hole in the roof....just make sure to wear goggles in case of bugs...

I'm 6' even and 170 lbs of skin and bone. With a 38" inseam I have trouble seeing over the steering wheel.

Apparently Bones didn't have a problem with bugs...
