Re: Thermal vacuum switch

I found a couple at the local pull-a-part for about $1 each. They seem to be mostly a discontinued item at the local parts stores. I think most of the GM versions are basically the same even if they may look different. So check all GM vehicles, not just the trucks. I found one in a front wheel drive car.

A properly working Thermac system does help the motor warm up faster and helps prevent carb icing when the air temps are between 30 to 60 or so and the humidity is high. Once the motor is fully warmed up, it shouldn't be needed any more. If you are having issues with the motor wanting to die/ stumble or idle poorly after driving a mile or so, a broken Thermac system might be the problem.

Re: Thermal vacuum switch

Do you mean on the intake manifold, or on the air cleaner body?

Re: Thermal vacuum switch

My 86 K30 454 I just replaced the 4 port vacuum port switch on the thermostat housing and Oreilly's had a BWD replacement in stock for $28. It is gray colored. Don't have the part number on hand but they found it right off. The GM switch was discontinued.

Bunch available on rockauto if you are not particular to having a purple one.
Blue, Black, Natural, Orange, Green, red. Under electrical & relay->ported vacuum switch.

Re: Thermal vacuum switch

What is the color difference though. They didn't just make there with a bunch of different colors because they look cool

Re: Thermal vacuum switch

Looks like if I go with the edelbrock 2101 intake manifold that part won't be needed neither will the egr and it'll still work with the quadrajet

Re: Thermal vacuum switch

Color = opening (or closing) temperature. So, you need to know what you are controlling and what those others controlled. ie: an EFE temp switch won't be any good in place of the EGR temp switch.

Re: Thermal vacuum switch

Not sure, but I may have been looking for the same thing and 83GMCK2500 posted a bunch of useful GM part numbers which I used to cross reference. My truck is a 80 C-10, 4.1 .

You might also try eBay using the part number.
