Removing a sunroof?

I was looking at a '70 C10, which a p.o. had installed a sunroof/moonroof- not to my liking. Has anybody had success in removing these and replacing with sheetmetal?

You can buy new roof skins for those trucks that would be the best fix. With the exception of me having two whole cabs I could get good clip tops from I would go the new skin route. It is a repair that may not be for the inexperienced with metal and body work but it is pretty straightforward. Jim

It is mainly drilling or grinding off spot welds but it can be or will be intimidating if you have not done it before or have help to walk you through it. Jim

Two problems, one is the cab was assembled in sections. The outer roof and the cab back wall were spot welded together across the top and the inner roof and the inner back wall were also spot welded across the top before being nested together. This makes it hard to do it in the factory style.

Second is the inner roof and that is a whole different project.
Most I have seen just tack a sheetmetal panel in place and cover it with a headliner.

However there is a PDF on doing a replacement using a bonded replacement roof skin.

In the end its a matter of how good you can weld or want to spend to close up a hole like that.

Hmm, sounds like quite a project. Mebbe I could learn to like a sunroof!!

Unless your getting a great deal on the truck ...Find another truck ,The costs associated with restoring it will be high and opening the roof just might bring a whole lot of unseen issues with it ! it would be better to just replace the entire cab and a lot cheaper too !
