72 Blazer Correct Bumpers
My 72 currently has front and rear chrome bumpers. Per the SPID, there is no indication of a chrome bumper option, Cheyenne option or any other indication that this truck left the factory with chrome bumpers. Would the bumpers have been white originally or could they have left the assembly plant chrome?

Re: 72 Blazer Correct Bumpers
Good question. I don't know how/if the painted vs. chrome bumpers were called out.

Re: 72 Blazer Correct Bumpers
It looks like Option Number V37 is for an upgrade to chrome bumpers front and rear. So does that mean that if this option was not selected (or you ordered a CST) you got a white bumper? I just don't recall seeing many Blazers without chrome.

Re: 72 Blazer Correct Bumpers
I would say I have seen as many with chrome as without. Mine are white, well mostly white.

Re: 72 Blazer Correct Bumpers
In 1971, the CST models came with chrome bumpers. Don't know about 72,

Re: 72 Blazer Correct Bumpers
I am going to start the restoration of my 72 non-CST this Winter, it will most likely be restored back to as original as possible. It currently has chrome bumpers but there is no mention of chrome bumpers on the SPID, so I guess they were changed out at some time in the past to chrome? It looks like white bumpers are on the restoration list.
Anyone know what option V38 was: "Painted Rear Bumper"? Could a vehicle have been ordered with a bumper matching the vehicle's color? I saw this at post # 41 on the Blazer SPID thread. My SPID is shown on post # 78 on the same thread although I had not yet owned the vehicle. |

Re: 72 Blazer Correct Bumpers
Yes Richard, I believe that if it was a non CST and you wanted chrome bumpers you could order them as you indicate and they would show on your SPID. If you chose the CST trim, you got them as a part of the pkg. (or at least the front). That is something that I've always liked about the classic cars and trucks. You could sit down at the dealer and build one pretty much exactly like you wanted.
By the way- hope you are doing well. Enjoyed meeting you this summer.

Re: 72 Blazer Correct Bumpers
Could the painted bumpers have been color matched to the color of the top? White top = white bumpers. Black top = black bumpers?

Re: 72 Blazer Correct Bumpers
Thanks all for your information. I guess my "mostly original" truck isn't as original as I thought, as it appears that it originally had the white bumpers. Now the question: do I keep the chrome or bring back the white?

Re: 72 Blazer Correct Bumpers
I am sure it wont hurt the value of the truck to leave the chrome on it. It's what you want that counts. If it were me I would want the white Bumpers back on it.
