stupid 14 bolt question
ok so this is most likely a really stupid question but i picked up a 14 bolt for free to swap into my 64 k10 and someone had welded the spider gears in it. I am going to replace the spider gears, luckily they didn't weld them to the carrier so i can still use the carrier. My question is this can I put in new spider gears and just slap the carrier back in? all the bearings and seals in it look brand new or should everything be replaced?

Re: stupid 14 bolt question
Free rear end with welded spiders. It was spooled for some sort of intended abuse. If you have the spider gears, I'd put them in and run it and see what happens. You can always take it apart and spend money later. You could end up running it for a long long time for free.

Re: stupid 14 bolt question
Changing spider gears shouldn't have any effect on the carrier bearing adjustment. If you're worried about it, you could read up on the adjustment process. Wouldn't hurt to check the gear contact pattern while you're in there either.

Re: stupid 14 bolt question
Do you have a line on some spider gears? I put a detroit locker in my 14 bolt a few years ago and I likely kept the spider gears that I removed.
