LS swap/IRS pinion angle?

So i'm building a 57 chevy truck with Lincoln Mark viii IRS and planning on running an LS motor up front. I'm wondering what is the preferred angle to set an LS motor at. I understand that with IRS the pinion is fixed and will not rotate up like a traditional rearend so it just hast to be parallel to the motor. I've seen posts suggesting 4 degrees on the motor to prevent oiling issues. Anyone have thoughts on the subject.

Re: LS swap/IRS pinion angle?

What I understand is that the typical engine/transmission angle relative to a 0* on the frame rail is 6 * on a GM vehicle. With that said, if your pinion angle is 6* you will not have any working angle on your u joints. All automotive u joints require a working angle of at least a 1/2* to prevent bearing caps from seizing up. They all need to rotate. Also you need to be concerned with phasing as well.

I would contact board member NEWFISHER as well as he is doing some drive tran modifications on his 46 soon.

Here is also a link that will help you with your question.

Hope this helps
