that rear bump stop bracket... why is it so rough edged?
does it hit something? was it made with a blow torch? was it an afterthought, oh crap, we forgot the bump stop?

whats up with the rough edges on that thing?

Re: i got just 1 question

Curious minds want to know.......and I don't have a clue but have wondered a few times myself as I bumped/rubbed against one.

That's about 4 questions.

Looks to me like the tool that made it is wore out. After 100,000 hits or so they need to refresh the stamp and trim edge tool.

Clem,
Since I am a Journeyman Diemaker/Designer by trade, my guess is that bracket gets V-formed, in a position similar to the position that your photo has it shown.
I am sure that the original Die was rather crude, with rough gauging for shaped flat blank, and a v-shaped punch on the upper, and a v-shaped cavity on the lower....Kind of a one-hit Louie, and because of the material bunching together down the vertical wall opposite of the "V" while it is being formed, it causes that jagged trim edge.

you know buddy, i bet you're right. but it seems weird that they wouldn't clean it up a bit. i've smoothed the jagged edges out of every truck i've done and never knew what was up with that, so thanks for the info... but, it is weird.
