gear ratio

I'm checking the gear ratios on all of my trucks and wondering if anyone has heard of a 439 ratio. The truck in question is an 81 gmc 3/4 longbed 2 wheel. Had a factory diesel. When I count the ring I get 41, and when I count the pinion I get 18. I have never heard of 439 ratio and can't find reference to it anywhere. Any ideas?

Re: gear ratio

41 divided by 18 equals 2.29.
Count it again or just look on the ring gear. It's stamped on there.

Whoa, Time warp. Thought I was browsing the 67-72 side when I first read this.
Careful on the multi posting of the same question.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: gear ratio

Would 2.29 be a real ratio. The lowest I ever seen was 2.43

Re: gear ratio

It's a 2:73. That was the standard ratio with the Olds diesel. 1981 was the last year. The only other ratio you could get with a diesel was 3:40.

Also, does that truck still have the diesel badges on it? I have never seen the '81 diesel badges and would love a pic if you have one.
