46 Chevy truck

Hey I'm thinking of buying a 46 chevy truck. Was wondering how hard it is to change the 4 speed to automatic. And what kind of automatic will fit on 216 6 cylinder. Thanks

for the 216 you will need a adapter plate to use a automatic. I'm assuming your thinking a 350 tranny. the starter on the older 6 cylinders bolts to the fly wheel.

Something else to consider:
A 55 car or 53 up truck 235 is full pressure and a much better motor. A T5 5 speed will bolt right up using the existing bell housing/clutch with a jeep input shaft. I just did this on my 46 with a 235 in it.

A 250 will fit in the hole and you can bolt up a 700r4 to it. I did this on my 50

Both are great options for a driver rig and you loose the enemic 216

OK, just to be a smart a$$ " the starter on the older 6 cylinders bolts to the fly wheel." Damn, someone must be running 42 miles of battery cable. So what exactly spins the flywheel? LOL I think I've had 1 to many TSINGTAO.

When using Buffalo or Tom from Stoveboltengine.com's adapter, the 216 starter is removed from the bell housing and will bolt to the adapter with supplied hardware.
