Thermostat in or out at start up

Getting ready to start new crate engine...is it better to leave therm out for the 20 minute break in ?

I run them, but I dill four 1/8" holes at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00. This allows any trapped air to escape.

I drill a 1/8th" hole in my thermostats to allow trapped air to escape as well, but I only drill one. Four seems a little excessive.
