Parking brake cable question
I am wanting to replace the front and intermediate parking brake cables on my 70 Chevy SWB stepside. I was looking at Rock Auto and they have front cables that are 73 1/8" and 71 7/8" long and intermediate cables that are 95 1/8", 119 5/8" and 127" long. Can someone tell me the correct length so I don't order the wrong ones?

I wonder if i am having the same issue. The intermediate cable on my 72 swb step was missing. I bought one from lmc but it seems too long. I have it tightened all the way and the e brake still wont hold. If i have time this weekend i will measure it and see how long it is. Does anyone else know what length the intermediate cable should be?

Inline tube has nice and correct cables. May be little more but worth it. Will be correct if you give them all your info on truck

Just a guess on my part here since I have never replaced mine. The short ones for a short bed and long ones for a long bed.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs. |

Mine's a 2500 Longhorn, but the LMC ones worked.
If you're replacing it, though, wouldn't it be fairly trivial to disconnect and measure the thing instead of guessing or hoping?

I can't remember the part numbers but I got all my cables off of Amazon for cheaper than inline tube plus with prime i got free 2 day shipping. I forgot the exact manufacturer but I remember they were solid name brand and all fit perfect. Most all part numbers are the same.

I have several cables. And I still don't have one that fits.

LMC doesnt list the length, just the application.
My cables were missing so nothing to reference. |

I think I will follow pickupman's advise and order from inline tube. I was hoping to save a little money but I guess I would rather spend a little extra and know that they are right instead of hoping.....

Im just now getting back to the parking brake issue. My issue is the e brake pedal is down low to the floor and will not engage the rear brakes. I have the adjuster on the intermediate cable tightened all the way down. I assume that the intermediate cable i got from LMC is too long (?)
I see that i line tube has a listing for a swb for a th350 and one for a th400. Im running a 700r4 now but the truck was originally a th350 so i guess thats which one ill go with. Were the cable run differently for each transmission or whats the difference? |
