if you attempt the rebuild on your own... make sure you have lots of space to lay stuff out..(from what I have heard) I was thinking of doing a th350 myself... just don't have the space

The t350 is a good trans, and holds up to horsepower well. If I were you, I would go the route of a gear vendors o/d unit or similar. I think you can get one of those for around $700. Then you would have the best of both. Just my 2 cents worth...

My neighbor has been rebuilding 700's for about a year. He rebuilt one for his on 70 ss 454, and everybody else wants one. He will do them wild to mild. He has done about 20. He is about 70 and is just keeping his self buzy. $495.00 plus torque converter.

My dad and I rebuilt two 350's once. We started with 3 cores...one case had a crack.
Buy the videotape! We didn't and I'm sure it would have helped. We had a GM service manual. One thing we did is videotape the whole dissassembly. That was definately helpful. Make a big 4 x 8 table to hold all of the parts. You'll also have to make a few tools...pretty easy. I think we had to take a screwdriver and notch it to remove some retaining rings or something. It's been awhile since we did it. Clean everything well too. Start off with a brand new torque convertor too. You don't want the old fluid circulating in your new transmission. Good luck! Keep us informed.

Ive rebuilt a couple t350's within the last year. I read the books, but i also watched a pro rebuild a couple @ the dealership that i worked at. Its not that hard, but does take a grage to do and it needs to be very clean if you want a long lasting one. So itrs very possible, try it and learn. Thats the only way youll know

ok heres the deal i bought 2 cores i know that the kit is 150 for all the parts i can get a vette servo for 50 and i do need a good stall like a 3k for my cam the reason i got 2 cores is for 1 to rebuild and 1 for refrence, stp is that the total price for a right built one with all the parts or i supply em?if so id rather have someone whos done it before. so far ive been doing alot of research and ive found i can get a whole tranny from raptor.com who builds em close to me in la. for about 900 without a core maybe i should just go that route it might be better or if there is anyone one here in Houston that can build it for me just mild for about 450 then let me know please....Steve.... id even be willing to give up the spare core i have the cores i have are 92 and 85 i want the 92 to build

The man only builds the 86-87 and newer trans. They are 495.00, without t.converter. He uses a corvette t. converter and servo. This man owned a trans. shop years ago and just does this for kicks. He sure doesn't need the money. His is behind a 472 cu. in. b.b. This man is a perfectionist. I do know that he has bought some specialty tools. I can talk to him, or get his # for you. Great guy
Thanks Steve |

Last I checked, a Gear Vendors unit was over 2000 dollars. Probably worth every penny...but damn, I'll never be able to find out. I'm poor.

Are they that much now? Jez, Ive been out of the biz for awhile. About 10 or so years ago, I helped my brother put one on his Sub. If I remember, he only paid about 700 bucks for it. I could be wrong though, this old age thing is starting to catch up to me.....

Local Parts Store
Not sure what you have where you are, but here in Central Fl the Advanced Auto Parts has a totally rebuilt THD 400T for my 67 C20 with a 402 BB for $509 and it comes with a 1 yr warranty. I am a chicken when it come to rebuilding a tranny. So for me it is worth the $500. I am guessing that the THD 350 would be less. Advanced Auto Parts bought out Discount Auto Parts here in Fl but I have bought parts at Advanced Auto Parts in Tennessee.

I rebuilt my TH350 last summer. I'm still having some problems with it shifting into 3rd. I think it has something to do with the vacuum. The kit ran about $120 (full rebuild kit), the sprag was distroyed - $20 for a used one, Case had a crack - $125 for core, Case needed some machine work & hot tanking - $110, new torque converter $80, & a few various other expenses. I think all said, the rebuild cost me $480. A rebuilt tranny at the local parts store was $535 and it comes with a warranty. Needless to say, I think I just buy a rebuilt next time. The only good things that came out of it, I got intimate with the insides of a TH350 and I got a "K" case (heavier aluminum for 4x4) rather than just a converted 2wd case.
