exhaust question

Well, my exhaust has some pinholes in it and a cracked muffler. It is time to replace the old rusty ones with some new ones. I have a 70 k20. I would like to run 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch pipes. What mufflers and pipe diameter should I get to get a sort of stock sound? By that I mean what will give me a nice sound with out having to wear ear plugs. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Re: exhaust question

Certainly no bigger than 2.5. I like the BIG magnaflow mufflers, I have them (duals) on a couple of big block vehicles, including my truck. Quiet at cruise but angry at WOT, and no droning.

Re: exhaust question

Here's one to consider. Good quality basic dual mandrel bent aluminized 2-1/4" system with choice of 'stock' mufflers, glass packs or no mufflers plus 15% off and free shipping. Designed for ram horn manifolds.

I need a complete system on my truck and the muffler shop recommended going with 2 1/4 pipes cause I have a stock 350. I like your system and the way its laid out. Do you have a Big or Small Block, Stock or beefed up engine?

I ordered the "stock" mufflers. They were made by Maremont and are definitely louder than a stock muffler. My truck is a 2WD 3/4 ton with coils, and there was a tailpipe clearance problem with the panhard bar. I returned it to Heartthrob with a pattern, and they custom bent one to fit at no charge. I'd expect a leaf spring rear would be more straight forward.

Did you notice they offer rear exit as well as behind the wheels?

Re: exhaust question

Thanks Jim, that's great to know. Once I get the engine rebuilt I will be ready to exhaust. Now, I am taking my sweet time, but I look forward to hearing that sweet sound.
