Alternator Issues
I had an issue with an altenator and want to share with all of you.
The main wire on the altenator got loose and the connector was glowing red from being so hot (arcing). I let it cool off and tried to tighten the nut. It decided to break off just as I thought it was tight enough. I ended up with this after I grounded the end flat. Notice the windings coming through the case. Not going to come off easy. I didn't have any metric nuts so I used a 5/16" nut drilled with a 17/64" bit and tapped with a 8-1.25 tap. I bought a 5/16" coupler? Drilled with a 17/64" bit and tapped with a 8-1.25 tap. Bought an 8mm bolt that is 1/2" long. Back in business. . |

Re: Alternator Issues
As long as it works. It will give the rebuilder a "what the" some day after it dies but that's no biggie.

Re: Alternator Issues
Thanks guys.
Just wanted to share a solution that could save someone some money. The alternator is off of a 2004 Monte Carlo SS. We are giving the car to a family member and I didn't want to spend more money on it. |
