Is this a stock quad shock setup?

Recently bought an 87 V10 that I am in the process of fixing up. I bought a new set of shocks to install and noticed that the front quad shocks do not appear to stock. By that I mean if u look in the LMC catalogue at the mounting brackets for quad shocks, one is mounted lower that the other. This makes sense as the replacements I got for the front one shock is longer than the other.

After looking them over on the truck I am thinking that someone just threw another set on the front at one time, squeezing it next to the original. They obviously are 2 different shocks, but do appear to be equal length.

At this point I think I would be fine with eliminating the quads and just using the standard 2 setup. I wont be lifting, plowing, or doing much off road with it.

Any info or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Scott

Re: Is this a stock quad shock setup?

That looks like the Old Rancho dual shock upgrade. Factory dual shocks have different top mounts, one shock is longer than the other. I would just put a good signle shock on.
I do have factory dual shock on the front of my V3500 (big block w/winch and bumper)

I have an 87 V10 with factory quad front shocks what you have isn't the same as mine. factory set-up has two separate mounting locations on the frame.

Re: Is this a stock quad shock setup?

I got kyb gr2's on my K20 and it handles great as far as I can tell. My first 4x4, and I removed my sway bar. I got them on special from rock auto for $13 each.

I would only try a dual shock if I had large tires.
