85 and 65 mash up
ok guys I usually hang out in the 73-87 thread but a friend of mine has had this 65 since high school. it is 4wd 6 cylinder short bed stepside. he also has an 85 4wd v8 longbed. what we want to do is put the driveline from the 85 into the 65. the engine in the 85 is a crate 350 with a rebuilt t350 trans. I don't know the transfer case off the top of my head. we want to use the axles from the 85 becaue they have been rebuilt and the front has disc brakes. will the drivetrain and axles fit from one to the other? how hard is it going to be or realitvly straight forward? thanks guys.

Re: 85 and 65 mash up
The front differential will bolt right up to the '65 springs, but I think the spring perches on the '85 rear differential may need to be moved. If the gearing is correct, I would consider keeping the 12 bolt that is under the '65. If the I6 that is in the '65 is a 250, the small block will bolt right in. If it is a 292, you will need a different passenger side mount bracket. The other alternative is to use the engine mount crossmember from the '85. The TC crossmember from the '85 should work as well. Basically the frames are nearly the same between the '65 and '85, so many parts will bolt in with simply drilling a few holes. The power steering box adapter plate that I make for the '63-'66 C series trucks will also work on the K series.
