Whats the percentages?

I was setting around the other day thinking about these old truck. I wonder what the percentages of trucks restored back to original versus restomod (bigger engines, different trannies and that such thing) versus 1's that are mechanically restored and driven as patina trucks. Feel free to post pics of your restoration project. My first 1 (25 yrs ago) had a 454 with a 400 turbo. The 1 I'm building now is going to be a 468 with a 700r4 combo.

Mine was so far from original when I rescued it that there was no going back .It had heated coils to lower ,looked cool but rode awful ,original 6 cylinder long gone and replaced with 350 ,old rusty mag wheels ,ratty interior (very custom) . I then made it the way I wanted it .

when I bought mine thought it was very original. has been upgraded to power steering.(crappy250 transmission.Rattlle can black paint.and ERA correct 327 with 2 different casting # heads ! I took off the thought to be 4 bump steelies for rallies W/o rings/centers.replaced a few parts w/original.other than that it's a floor rusted,manual choke parts runner !

Mine was originally the puke green they come in, but was repainted blue, the original bed is completely destroyed and is now being used as a compost bed, The engine, transmission, and wheels are from an 84 chevy truck, came originally with a 350/ th350 combo and still has that same combo, just from a different truck. Still has original headliner though

future plans are restore the body, an LS with 4l80, and thats as far as my planning has brought me.

So, I guess i'll be in the restomod pool

I would guess >5%. I always wondered how many are actually left period. You look at Craigslist even the parts forum here. Guys with 30 glove boxes n ash trays makes me wonder how many 1,000's are long gone after all these years. I bet the numbers would stagger most of us. Could be as high as 40 or 50% from original production numbers.

^ I guess I could add to that the fact that I know of at least 2 67-72 trucks that went into mine. I bought one as a donor for the bed and front clip and when I bought mine, it had a different bed on it from a different truck altogether. (the bed was sold before I bought the truck)
Also, the front clip (and doors I think) from the donor that gave up the bed are still behind my friend's shed.

Mine is stock. Planed a full restoration but found another truck (was supposed to be a donee for a few parts) but could make myself tear it down and now it's going to get restored. Then there's the two others I stumbled on... I have ideas. I'm thinking three k20s same color same interior but different trim levels. Base to full tilt.

However in tethering parts I decided I like dark blue and 1970 "gold" and there's the 67 k20 panel...

Okay I have the dreaded sickness and I'll probably end up with a yard full of trucks and when I pass on to the next life some lucky dude will find my hoard and my wife will sell them all for pennys. Alas the fun is gathering the parts and finding ways to hide my truckoholism

So long story short I plan to restore and not mod unless it was factory offered.

All mods can be easily changed to go back to stock.

I would the % is high if you are referencing bobe stock to any modifications.

My 70 C-10 was bought in 1996 in fairly original shape, as seen in the first picture, below.

( including twenty-six years worth of rust )

It was restored from 2008 - 2011 to original condition, as seen in the second picture, below. ( except for the color, of course )

The third picture, below, shows the options that were added.

( some weren't available in 1970, but they were added for safety or economy )

I bought mine totally stock, but repainted 8 years ago to factory colors. only change are tires, tonnou cover, and a brand new NOS AM/FM 8 track Audiovox radio which looks very stock for the time..

Interesting discussion on both fronts. I'd say more have met their demise than are still around, and more dropping every day. When I redid mine the goal was to keep the body, exterior and interior, as stock as possible and upgrade the suspension and driveline.

I won't advocate for one or the other, but those that know me know that I'm shooting for a "looks stock" appearance, and am in fact almost entirely stock. I have later GMC wheels but still have the 16.5s with tires stacked nicely in the corner.

That makes me a rarity here, though by no means alone. But I should define my terms.

Chrome valve covers? Not stock.
Open element air cleaner? Not stock.
Lowered or raised? Not stock.
C-Notch? Definitely not stock.
Aftermarket steering wheel? Not stock.
Aftermarket radio? Not stock.
Non-original wheels? Even I have to admit, not stock.

A lot of folks will have a significantly modified vehicle but state that all of the changes can be reversed. And that's true - the giant fender flares that got glued onto that L-88 Corvette back in the 70s can be repaired. But the reality is that 99% of "changes that can easily be reversed" never are, or at least not by the people that made those changes.

I recently purchased this truck and want the stock look but will do some visible and not visible upgrades. Firstly the white front bumper is getting chromed and the hideous rear work bumper is going away and an original rechromed sport bumper will be installed. I will be putting an ECE hidden hitch as well as ECE's rear mounted gas tank on the truck. I am fervently looking for a very nice set of P01 ( with the blue bow ties ) wheel covers and will run 15 x 8 rims with 255/70R15 blackwall tires on all 4 corners. There are some holes along the top of the box from I think rails and I will eventually get them filed and will probably get the stake holes files at the same time. Interior wise no changes except I have a redone tach, speed warning and vacumn gauge dash I bought from of the board members and will be installing it. I also have the back of cab rear corner speaker enclosures I bought off the boards which will be installed when the gas tank leaves . My biggest dilemma right now is whether or not to cut the dash and install a din C/D player or leave it stock. I looked at a Gary Tayman original radio conversion but it'll be 500/600 for me. Now with all the things I mentioned doing to the truck it should look stock but will have few upgrades and anything I have done I could change back but can't see the point of ever doing that. Sorry for the long ramble !!
