The anodizing has begun to corrode off the grille, which is a real pain to make it look good again.
I have seen some people polish the anodizing layer off, then clear coat the aluminum to prevent tarnishing and corrosion. The only way to truly get it to look like new is to have it sent out and reanodized, but it is more cost effective to get a new grille shell. ![]() |

I saw one last night at the local cruise in and I asked the guy how he did it and he told me mothers so I went and bought some and it hasnt turned out like his yet . I have no money in this shell so that is the reason I was asking . Is there any thing else that will remove the anodizing other than hand rubbing ? I know its most likely cheaper to find another but I would atleast like to try since its in good shape and free.

I took some brasso, a broken drillbit, a screw gun or a fast revving drill and polished it off. Drop some brasso on the shell and wrap the cloth around the bit. Make sure it is thick tho, it could scratch your shell if not. Mine was turning the milky white color and this brought back the shine. Good luck

spray it with some oven cleaner, let it sit for 5 or tem min, and rince it off. That shouyld remove a little of the anodizing. Do it over and over untill it is all gone. You want to do it in small quick steps so the actual alluminum does not get damaged by the clenaer.
Once you have it all off, you may want to wet sand the grill with 100 grit, and maybe even 2000 grit wet sand paper, and then use the mothers ( I like there wheel polish...real good stuff) and if you have a dremel or simalar tool, use it. You'll have quite a bit of time in it, but if you keep at it, it can look almost like chrome. This will be a high maintnance item once you hace done it. A quick but good polish every week or two should keep it's shine. |
