Hole under gas tank

Any idea what the hole under the gas tank is for? It's the large 2" hole just off center on the driver's side. I have searched through the manual and can find nothing on it.

I assumed some sort of grommet goes there but maybe a plug of some sort? If so what's it called so I can try and find one to purchase...

Re: Hole under gas tank

FAM page 8 2.00 shows it as an optional plug #444613 or 3719217. It was added after original production so maybe they thought about adding a drain to the tank, my stock one did not have one. I just welded it up. If you are going for a 100 point restoration the search is on, if not a little larger patch to cover the hole and seam sealer should work. patch in a little piece of round carpet and you are good to go.

Re: Hole under gas tank

Believe that is for the Drain, My Truck had the same and the drain plug for the gas tank was set in the tank just above the same hole in the floor

Re: Hole under gas tank

Cool my first though was it was for a drain but the original tank didn't have one so I tossed that idea. Looks like I'll just need to find a plug. Thanks for the info guys

Re: Hole under gas tank

You never wondered how the fuel got out of the tank and to the fuel pump!! There is a grommet that goes in that hole for the fuel line from tank to engine.

Brothers has them. Look under drivetrain, gas tanks, Grommets and gaskets.

Welder + steel or RTV + steel, your call.
