Carpet hold down strips?

Are the front and rear carpet hold down strips the same or are they different? The two I have out of my 72 K5 are the same but it had a vinyl floor mat and I am replacing with carpet. I saw where someone had two for sale in the for sale section and they appeared to look different! Thanks, help appreciated.

Re: Carpet hold down strips?

The ones out of my '70 GMC Jimmy are the same but I got a pair several years ago from a '71 or '72 Jimmy that had two different ones. I don't know the flooring that was in the latter but my '70 was stock with carpet and has the CST option.

Re: Carpet hold down strips?

More knowledgeable voices please chime in, but what I've surmised from hunting these things is:

1. There are obviously two types (clamping ribbed type, flat with slight bend[pictured at bottom courtesy of BigDon])
2. I have seen them in all configurations with respect to front and back strip combinations (flat/flat, clamp/flat, clamp/clamp).
3. The flat/flat iteration seems to be the earlier versions and the clamp/clamp the predominant later combo
4. I am often completely wrong, especially when I think I'm sure
5. If you find two good ones...hang onto them.

Re: Carpet hold down strips?

I'm the one with the two for sale in the classifieds. From my research, the one that is shown above is the FRONT hold down strip and the one that has a half-cylinder ridge down both sides is the rear hold down strip. Also, I've seen pics of them installed reverse of this, as shown above, with the "smooth" strip at the rear and the "raised" strip at the front.

The ones for sale are from my 1972 Blazer, BTW.

What you are describing fits my '70, early being the "flat/flat" combination. What you pictured from BigDon there is the ones that were front and back original in it. I'm sure that no one ever altered it as Mom bought the truck in early 1971 when it was only a few months old. The other set I have is the flat/ribbed combo, but I don't know if that Jimmy was a '71 or '72.

That's what I've seen with most 1970s...flat/flat...I had such difficulty finding two good ones of that type that I had two made at a machine shop. They copied one that I had on loan from 1Rippen. They're both at the chromer right now...It was hard not to pull the trigger on yours bamachem.

Hope you put up pics when the chroming is done! Incidentally my Dad was from Crawfordville, GA.

Re: Carpet hold down strips?

I have seen the same as above, flat/flat in 70 and rib/rib and rib/flat in 71-72. The rib does hold the seal for gate. Getting that seal in properly is harder then putting a wet noodle up a tigers a$$!!!
