Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
After more than 13 years of owning this truck, I'm finally getting serious about building it. I started this thing when I was 16 and nearly had it running a few years back when I decided to tear it apart and start over. After doing a lot of research and saving my pennies, I finally pulled the trigger on a ton of Porterbuilt parts. I don't expect to be done for a while but I figured I would start my own build thread. I hope you guys like it.
Front frame horns were bent so I decided to replace them rather than try to straighten them That's it for now but hopefully in a few more weeks, I will have some more updates to post. Last edited by Pinky6872; 12-08-2015 at 06:12 PM. |

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
While I'm in the posting mood, I went to SEMA last week and here's some of the C10's I took pictures of.
Does anyone know what kind of headlights these are? I've seen this truck a few times now and I'm blown away at the quality everytime. Awesome build! |

The headlights you asked about are JW Speaker 8700 evolutions. Super bright led's.

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
I like the build so far, seeing the pics of parts in mockup will help me to as it looks very similar to mine.. You are a ahead of me by a couple weeks..
I'm curious to the overall theme you are looking to do

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
Excellent start to what looks like an amazing build. That porter built stuff is just incredible.
I cant wait to get my hands on some of those parts when I do my build. Please share as many pics of the frame build as you can. They will be a huge help to me and most builds these days. Thank You Ulysses |

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
Good list of parts. I wish Porterbuilt had made the fram stiffener/trailing arm crossmember, when I was building my frame. Quality piece!

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
Small update on the project. I got the control arms powder coated and love the way they came out. The color is Mystic Black. I started finish welding the new front end on and so far, so good. I also decided I wanted to weld on a lot of the PB stuff rather then bolt it on, so the front shock mounts are welded in place.

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
Hey guys, I started installing the notches for the rack and pinion. I trimmed them down almost an inch to get rid of the overhang. I plan on grinding the outside welds flush so they don't look welded in. I stole the idea from toocrazy and his awesome 69 slammed, 22"/24" bbc shaved clean build
I've also been practicing my welding and it's starting to pay off. |

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
I haven't got as much done on the truck lately as I'd like but at least I made a little progress.
I got both rack notches welded in and started grinding down the welds smooth. I also started filling some of the holes in the frame. It's going to take forever to fill all these holes in. I also got the rear notches fully bolted in so I was finally able to start cutting out the old frame. |

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
Finally got the old frame sections cut out and flush with the step notches. I also cut the back sections off the frame in preparation for the new body drop rear sections.

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
Front crossmember and airbag mounts are bolted in place for good. I had to do a little massaging to get everything to fit up correctly but nothing major.

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build
Made a little bit more progress. I copied "mooseknuckles" and made the front frame sections match.
Started by cutting out the old section on the passenger side. Then I cut the drivers side down to be able to make a template. Cut out a piece from an old crossmember and welded it in. Got it all ground down and I think it looks pretty good. It took about 3 hours from start to finish. |
