newer model 250 fitment

So the 250 in the truck is out of a 72 nova as far as I know. I need to replace it and found one on craigslist. It's in a 77 pick up and they guy is swapping it out for a 350. Does anyone know if I can just swap them over with no issues?

Re: newer model 250 fitment

The 77 is likely an integral head (meaning the head and intake are cast as one piece) which is not desirable. The blocks are basically the same and will swap but I would swap your 72 head over. If the 77 is a standard head with separate intake and exhaust manifolds, then you wouldn't need to change anything. All of the 194, 230, 250 blocks mount the same. The 292 had different engine mounting point on the pass. side.

Hope that helps.

helps a lot. Thanks. How can I make sure it's a 250 and not a 292?

Re: newer model 250 fitment

Well it looks like the intake is cast with the head. Bummer.

Re: newer model 250 fitment

Look at your 4" side covers and the 77. If the same then they are the same. Swapping the head is easy. You will need 5 of the original headbolts( integral bolts too long on manifold side) a gasket set and reuse your intake exhaust and valve cover. Tstat housing may be different and you want to run your old one. Get a new tstat. Oil , coolant and swap it out.

Re: newer model 250 fitment

I'm running an integral head motor . If you swap that head be sure and do it somewhere you have help or the engine is close to the ground . I weighed that head and it's 140 lbs. Huge pain to drag out with the engine in the hole .

Re: newer model 250 fitment

I think im gonna use my old head on it. I want to reseal everything on the motor and paint it up nice. Not sure how nice I can get it with that integrated head. Might have to wait til next weekend to go get the the motor but the guy said he'd hold it for me. Hopefully nobody else snags it up. From the pics it looks like it has electric choke. I'm stoked about that. Hopefully I can use that carb with my intake.
