This stinks.....
I have the most stinkiest of gas fumes in side the cab when I'm driving. It's bad. I'm glad I don't smoke or there would be great mushroom clouds of doom everywhere I go.
I see no signs of leakage outside or inside the truck, and I have replaced the rubber lines from the tank to the frame. Jeeeez this stinks, has anyone else had this problem? and what was done to stop the stink.......thanks.

The rubber o-ring is probably worn out at the top of the tank. Don't fill it all the way until you replace/check this.

Another spot to check is the sending unit "O" ring, and the little seal on the stud that your sending wire is attached to. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Being a 71, there is also a hose that loops around from the tank back to the tank (Not sure what it is supposed to do) inbetween the inner and outer wall on the passenger side beside the rear window.
Check to see that it is still in one piece. |

EECS
EECS Evaporative Emission Control System
On my '71 350 that 'extra' tube leading out of the gas tank is for vent fuel vapors out of the tank...and the tube goes to the charcoal canister in the engine compartment. Maybe this is it?? According to my Haynes manual: "An indication that the system is not operating properly is a strong fuel odor." Check that the rubber tube is not blocked or the canister is not stopped up. There is one line headed out of the tank to the front of the engine bay. The fumes are almost as if you pour fresh gas right from a can onto the floor in the cab. I'm checking the stuff inside the cab first.

Well, I have never messed with one myself, but in the LMC catalog, it just shows it looping in the cab...
I have no idea what it would be...onless SLS is right. |
