New Toy

Don't really need another one, but couldn't pass this one up; 72 GMC Longhorn 20: Sierra Grande, 402, A/C, PS, PB, cab roof lights, posi, soft ray and bedside tool box. Someone added a tach dash. Couple very small rust spots. Still has factory paint all around. Has a bunch of parts to go w/it, too. Very very nice original truck. Going to get it on Saturday.

Very very nice truck! Great score. Looking forward to more pics of it, when you get it home.

Re: New Toy

I was looking at that truck as well (near Austin). I passed on it due to it being a camper special. I just don't want such a long truck. Have fun with it.

Re: New Toy

Nice! I probably couldn't have passed it up either, especially when I can never find anything that clean looking here in my area

Re: New Toy

Not a big lover of the Longhorns, but love the color and am partial to GMCs. And nice perfectly good trucks that haven't been taken apart and left to rot in pieces are getting harder and harder to find. What I'll do with a 3/4 ton Longhorn, I don't know, but I guess that I'll pull and redo the lower chrome, wet sand it, buff it out and put all the chrome back on it. Then just keep it like the rest of them that I've "saved". Waaaay too nice a truck to let fall in the wrong hands and have someone start picking parts and pieces off it. Have not test driven it or seen it in person yet, so hoping that its everything the owner says it is.

Funny, was at Chickasha, OK swap meet a month ago and bought what-I-thought-at-the-time was a set of NOS upper bed trim for a LWB, at least that's what the guy told me they were. Lo and behold, when I get home, I measure them up against an LWB that I was going to use them on, they're 6 inches longer than the LWB...Longhorn!! So now, have to go buy a truck to use them.

Roger...I'll keep you guys updated.

Re: New Toy

Did not buy. Had been repainted, so did not want. Truck had a lot going for it; just a small amount of rust in one of the rockers; about $500 in extra parts, looked like new Michelin tires. Houndstooth front seat had been redone recently. New wood floor bed (black). Probably not a bad deal at $5500, but was looking for a 100 hour project, not a 500 hour project. Located on Austin, TX Craig's List.
