need help c10 rear suspension
Like title says ordering more parts for my c10 ls turbo build and trying to get all the parts ordered so I can work on it in December when I go home for the holidays here's where im at right now I not sure if to
1) keep the trailing arms with adjustable qa1 coilovers and a pb crossmember and a good anti roll bar 2) get a ladder bar setup with the adjustable qa1 coilovers 3) get a adjustable 4 link w/the qa1 coilovers truck will be street driven and raced on weekends so trying to make a decision on the rear end I'm going to keep the 12 bolt and already recieved my moser Gridle cover etc for it. Also what rate of springs should i start with on the rear i know they'll have to be adjustments etc just want a base line to start off I believe they're 12 " springs thanks In advance |

Re: need help c10 rear suspension
I would have staid with the trailing arms but we decided to do Molly rear frame rails to shave weight. The 4- link shaved even more.
130lb spring would probably be a good starting point. I recently moved to a 110lb spring but added a spacer. I wanted less rate but did not have the shock travel due to the load on the spring, have the spacer.

Re: need help c10 rear suspension
Thanks for the response
Yeah I know what your saying I just figured I would ask since a adjustable pb trailing arm crossmember is like 250 moreless plus a good anti roll bar will be at least 250 plus if i get some adjustable trailing arms I know that should have plenty of adjustment but once I get everything it's in the same price range as a a ladder bar setup or 4 link just trying to get it all right the first time so I don't have to go back and redo it later on |

Re: need help c10 rear suspension
Nothing against PB equipment, but you can make your own home made adjustable low control arm brackets for less than $50 (look up my thread).
As long as your arms are in good shape, all you need to do is clean and weeks the seems. Almost free.pinion shims $30 A ladder bar set up is a waste of money as you more or less have that now. A 4-link is great. Tons of adjustment. But you don't necessarily need it. If you are ok with the cost of buying it and installing it, go for it.

Re: need help c10 rear suspension
To work out the spring rate I weighed the truck with corner scales. I then looked up what poundage to use. With mine it came out at 170lb. The coil overs are mounted to the rear of the arms so give a direct ratio.

Re: need help c10 rear suspension
Super73, seeing as what the poster is using the truck for, which would be better in your opinion: trailing arms or 4 link? And why?

Re: need help c10 rear suspension
Thanks everyone and yes being that the truck will be used for street/strip how reliable would a 4 link be and how would maintenance be, as far as the trailing arms they're in good shape I was planning on welding them where they come together and reinforcing them if I used them I'll look up your thread on the arm brackets

Re: need help c10 rear suspension
I use the trailing arms. Welded them at seam as described by Super73, and installed monoball set up from a nascar part supplier in place of the bushings. Coil over, and anti roll bar. I have been 1.24 60' times, and 5.50 in the 1/8 mile on radials. I had to keep stock suspension for the classes I run, but have had better results than I thought were possible.

Re: need help c10 rear suspension
Thanks yeah I'll probably end up moving the mounting points up on them and running some different style bushings up front and box in the trailing arms and get my friend to build me a good anti roll bar like the ones that come in the hotchkis kits and run the qa1 coilovers and hope it hooks
I was told by a friend at work that he could get me a chassis engineering ladder bar kit for 250 does that sound about right |

Re: need help c10 rear suspension
If you get me corner weights and the angles you are running them at I can dial in the correct shock length and spring rates that you will need. Plus our Ridetech Coilovers and Q Series shocks are all Monotube and have a 1,000,001 mile warranty.

Re: need help c10 rear suspension
Thanks everyone for the info and yeah hadn't checked on this thread just been stocking
up parts for when I go home as far as the rear coilovers I already have the qa1 double adjustable coilovers for the rear and have been ordering engine parts(holley hi ram,102mm throttle body,s480 turbo, tial wastegate and bov, cnc'd heads, holley dominator ecu, etc.) hoping for a fun weekend warrior I think I'm gonna use the trailing arms to see how it works I mean 5.50@ 1/8 is really good which means something is working right |
