Am I missing something?? Defroster duct

I can't get this figured out, and this is the third truck I've had issues with, help!

I went tonight to replace the defrost lever in my heater controls - which went great until the pot-metal stud holding the levers on the back of the face broke, so now tomorrow I'm drilling the face for screws.

Anyway, when I look up under the dash, the passenger's defroster duct is off its outlet on the heater box, and the blower control cable (goes to the bottom of the heater box from the vent lever) goes right over the outlet, where the hose should be. If I push it out of the way (front or back) to install the duct, the lever gets really stiff. What gives??

My '69 K10 and the '72 C30 to K30 build I did were both like this, too. Where is that cable supposed to go, and why doesn't it want to go there?

Lightbulb Re: Am I missing something?? Defroster duct

I'm not going to say it's the right way to do it but I got a longer cable off another controller I had gotten out of a junk dash. That way it wasn't binding up like yours. I also soaked them really good before I installed them.

Another suggestion take the keepers on both ends of the cable loose and get them as close to the ends as possible this will give you a little more adjustment also may are maynot be enough though.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

You know what? This is simple and elegant and makes perfect sense, and I never would have though of it

I will have to remember to grab the next long control cable I run across!

Re: Am I missing something?? Defroster duct

Funny. I think I remember seeing the same thing on mine. I have to put new duct hoses in anyway. Gee, can't wait.

Me too on both...I guess. My ride has many little things that could be replaced and the money goes somewhere else way before it can trickle down to the last vehicle in the lineup! when I want defrost I move lever @ heater back & forth, w/o hoses, the air gets there sometimes and very slowly (laughs). Like I've said on other posts it is a beater/work truck, gets wood and hauls trash to dump! LoveMyTruck. Bam.
