Can you identify this wire?
Working on my dads '69 GMC. Sometimes it's hard to tell what is stock and what is some kluge he did at some point in the past.
Found this "hub" in the passenger side right next to the battery tray. Edit: no idea why the pic is upside down. Am posting from my mothers ipad so am limited in what I can do. Sorry The hub has 3 wires coming out of it. One goes down to the passenger headlights ( I think), 1 runs across the grill and looks like it runs through the firewall. The remaining wire is loose and dad says he thinks it goes to the battery positive. Any ideas? Thanks. |

That "hub" is the battery junction block. As for the wire, I'm not sure. I'm sure someone will chime in with the answer shortly. Maybe try searching junction block and there may be a wiring diagram.

Your dad is right... dads always are!
There should be a wire that goes from the positive cable to the junction block. It's actually a fusible link. Here's a picture of the battery end of the original positive cable from my 69 that shows the fusible link. |

Yup. He's right. That's the link to the whole trucks electrical system.

Also, make sure it is actually "fusible link' wire and not just "wire". Fusible Link is the protection from fire due to electrical short. You can buy Fusible Link wire at the auto parts store.
