Engine Swap Questions (350 to 305 TBI)
I am in the process of swapping out my blown 350, and got a free 305 TBI with 50,000 miles from a buddy of mine. I have already swapped engines, and am in the process of hooking everything back up to the new 305, but have a few questions. The engine I got is out of a 93 Caprice, and I going to swap out the TBI intake to a carbureated intake and adding an electric fuel pump. The new engine also has a serpintine belt system, and I want to keep it intact. I am planning to go with a small 4bbl or decent 2bbl to help with MPG, any suggestions?
Questions: 1. The alternator wiring from the old engine is white and black. The new engines alternator has a brown and a brown/white stripe wire. Which one goes to what? 2. Other than getting an aluminum intake from Edlebrock (#2104), will any other intake work? This is the engine that has the "canted intake bolts" so not just any 305/350 intake will work. I figure that someone else has done the swap before and found a cheaper solution. 3. I want to remove the A.I.R. tubes, but not sure what kind of plug to use to plug the holes. Anyone know where to get some? 4. Can anyone suggest a good inexpensive electric fuel pump? Since the 305 doesn't have the mechanism to run a mechanical one, I have to go electric. Any help is greatly appreciated! John "Trouper" Troup Memphis
