Rear End swap ??

I have located a 71 5 lug rear end today. Other than being 1 1/2 inches wider is there any other issues I need to watch out for when I swap it to my 64 C10. I plan on reworking the brakes but hope the rest is a bolt on.. Thanks

Re: Rear End swap ??

it is a bolt in. You will have to use your 64 parking brake cables.

Re: Rear End swap ??

Bought it as a pickup bed trailer so I will swap my 6 lug under it. Got the rear end I wanted and a trailer as a bonus for $150... Groovy

Re: Rear End swap ??

The bad part about this whole 5 lug swap is I am doing it for one stupid reason !!!! I love CRAGAR SS wheels and that's what I want on the 64. Don't really care about power disc or any of that stuff, Just the CRAGAR'S !! It's my age I guess, those wheels make anything look good !!

Re: Rear End swap ??

I have a 71/72 5 lug under my truck, you just need a tad more back spacing fo wheels.

I run 8" rallys and they work fine

Re: Rear End swap ??

The '71 12 bolt uses a short panhard bar versus your '64 which uses the long panhard bar. If you want to use the short panhard bar, you will need to put a slight bend in the end that bolts into the frame bracket. Otherwise you can cut the panhard bar bracket off of your '64 12 bolt and weld it to the '71 12 bolt and use the long panhard bar.

I'm a fan of Cragars too........

I swapped in a 67 rear end ( po had converted to 5 lugs) in my 60. I had an old set of deep dish Cragars that wont fit. The rear fender hits with out a tire . So I got some standard dish that will... just a heads up
