Newbie, pics as promised
Well here is my new ride. 72 C10 Cheyenne LWB. Very happy to have bought this truck. Its not perfect but its pretty clean and will give me a good opportunity to improve on my mechanic skills (or lack thereof).
From the engine block code (see pic) it appears to be a 350 4bbl from a 1969 Impala. If someone could verify this, I'd appreciate it. Is there anyway I can find the build date of the truck and dealership that it was sold from? I do not have the Protecto-Plate. Just vin tag on inside of door and SPID (see pic). There could be other things with info I just don't know the locations yet. It has an oil leak that is coming from the valve cover gaskets. You can smell it burning on the manifold while driving. There is a lot of oil around the bottom half of the engine and back onto the tranny. Not sure if there are other leaks but hard to believe valve cover gaskets could leak this much. I have a several drops on the ground after sitting a week. I plan on changing out the valve cover gaskets with rubber steel cored gaskets and getting some spreader bars to ensure a tighter more distributed seal. I will then clean the oil off the engine and tranny and look for more leaks. Hope I don't find any other ones. Last edited by domano 68; 12-02-2014 at 11:15 PM. |

I really like the Black and White color combo. Based on your SPID your truck was built at the Flint Michigan plant. SSTIM or others are really good at breaking down the serial numbers to provide more information. Search the forum for SPID and I'm sure you could do it yourself.

Very nice truck. It might be time for a reseal on the engine and transmission, but overall it looks like a great start.

Re: Newbie, pics as promised
When buying fluids, parts, etc for the engine, I have to specify it is from a 69 Impala instead of a 72 C10, correct?
