AIR RIDE KIT.help me find mine
ok fellas, xmas time is here and after working a dam ton i want to treat myself to something for the 69 chevy shortbed. i want air ride, instead of static. done so much reading.
here is my setup and goals, help me find a decent value kit. i cant do like 3k or anything too wild. 1969 short fleetside. power drums all 4 (later swap to disc with drop spindle) i am looking to find a complete just decent quality kit.this is just a driver truck, not 3000 mile trips nor is it a drag racer or a show truckk. i am not looking to COMPLETELY lay frame, i just want to get pretty low, c notch is fine, just now a big super c. i do not need slam bags or huge upgraded compressors or a wild tank. i would like to mount it under the bed for a clean bed. my expectations arent too wild or demanding at all i dont think. for a budget kit is there one available for under 1500 or 1600$ with the switches and gauges? just a complete simple air ride kit its a bit new to me so im in the grey, hopefully you guys will help me out some on finding what i need.after suspension my chassis is done and i can throw my motor in and go!

Re: AIR RIDE KIT.help me find mine
Simple pressure based systems are very difficult to get the alignment at a set height. I had a simple cheep kit and that's the fastest way to hate air ride.save your money and do it right so you can enjoy you truck and be safe.

Re: AIR RIDE KIT.help me find mine
72mario, what do you Kean by simple pressure based systems? Sorry if its a dumb question, just trying to fully understand.
I will want to play with the air ride of course but will have A main ride height 75% of time. Do I need the e-level type stuff? How is this kit?--- http://www.azproperformance.com/Pro2...uto-Pilot.html

Re: AIR RIDE KIT.help me find mine
That setup does not include bags and brackets. First thing I would do is try to get a price range you want to spend. Properformance is a great company and Travis there is very helpfull and will give you a great price

YOU DON'T need accuair but its nice stuff it presets 3 heights and goes to that height no matter load ect. You can also use manual style set up if you don't want to deal with the electric valves. You can build your own air system with 2 compressors and bags for bout 1100. Then you will need front mounts spindals and rear notch and rear bag mounts. Jake

Re: AIR RIDE KIT.help me find mine
Agreeing with mentions above, save money till you can do it right the first time, had a 92 caprice wagon with bags, poorly done and hated it. Rode in a friends truck with a 4-5k setup and it rides like a dream and is easy to mess with and maintain. Not sure what he ran or is currently running, ill ask him tomorrow.

Re: AIR RIDE KIT.help me find mine
Just to make something clear as far as air ride its self.
A manual valve or electric valve set up so long as it has every corner separated (manual 4 valves) ( electric 8 valves) will RIDE the same as the accuair kit but you will need to figure out at what psi each wheel needs to be to sit level. Good quality mounts and shocks is a must. Accuair takes the headache out of figuring out psi heights. Jake

Re: AIR RIDE KIT.help me find mine
either ez air ride.com (complete bolt in system) ...guy tole me that if you have simple tools in the garage you can install this yourself...think it was like $1900.00
or way2lo2 on this site...he has an entire set up for $1000.00 but accuair and porterbuilt combo set up is the bomb!!! |

Re: AIR RIDE KIT.help me find mine
So basically its between the self leveling type accuair taking guess work bout of individual psi on each corner to get it level?
Maybe I'm a cheap crap but idk if I'd ever want to spend 4k on the suspension.seems steep to me although I understand its extremely high quality. I can put up with the guess work on bag p.s.I. for the $$. I have a budget but not 3-4k. Is doing a non accuair cheaper kit not doing it right? I want the air ride for option of ride height, but once a desired stance is found it will be maintained most of the time. Is the cheaper really that un-desirsble? I am loving all the opinions and replays b.t.w

Re: AIR RIDE KIT.help me find mine
RideTech has their CoolRide bags that you can get for around $900.00 bucks for all four corners and then their base analog control system for $1000.00 (no shocks). I do believe that their stuff is "upgradeable". So you can drop the base system in now and then add more options as funds become available.
Bags http://www.ridetech.com/store/coolri...ation_contents Control http://www.ridetech.com/store/ridepr...ay-system.html I have delt with Darrin over there before. I was happy with the service and didn't feel pressured to buy more then I was looking for. |

Re: AIR RIDE KIT.help me find mine
Basically IMO you need ride height sensors if you want accurate alignment and great driveability. I drove our suburban for a few years on a pressure based system it sucked. Never drove straight. If we wanted the right height I had to take a tape measure to each corner and set it at the height I had the alignment done.
