200r4

So i picked one up this morning and was curious as to peoples opinion as to the best rebuild kits out there and shop manuals out there as this is my first I'm completely unfamiliar with these transmissions and i intend on doing the work myself, any special tools needed, any little "hey they don't tell you this but......." I'm sure theres people here that have used them and said to themselves it would have been so much easier if i had just known or done this and while i appreciate learning from f*#king up as the next guy I've had my fill of frustration for a while just looking for a little help from someone who doesn't mind handing down some knowledge. Ive already considered hitting up a GN forum but those guys are so into the GN i doubt they'd help when they hear its not for a GN. I know everyone has an opinion as far as 200r4 v. 700r4 well i couldn't find a 700r4 in my price range and this kinda feel in my lap and seeing how it pretty much bolts right in without having change much from my th350 its what I'm rolling with.....thanks for any info or links to where i can get what I'm looking for.

I got your PM, But I cant post pics in a PM.....

Let's figure out what exactly you have, There should be a aluminum plate riveted to the passenger-Rear of the trans case. It looks like this....

CR, Is a calibration Code, The most important code on a 200-4R.

F, Stands for 200-4R.

300, Is the Julian date the unit was manufactured.

87, 1987 model

2, Shift ID, (2nd shift)

CRF, Redundant calibration code in case the paint gets worn off or unreadable.

1310, Serial Number.

Some models have a extra digit for Plant identification.

Once you locate the tag, Pull the pan & get the 3 digit code off the valve body.
A CRF 2004R should have a CR followed by a numerical digit (CR9) for example.
IF the VB & tag don't match....The VB has been swapped

Re: 200r4

That IS NOT a 200-4R, It's a TH200-C. which is a 3 speed auto with a lock-up converter.

CUB, '86-'87 305 El Camino.

Re: 200r4

Use the TH350 if already rebuilt.

Though the TH200 is very weak in stock form, It can be built just as strong as a built 200-4R. But very few circumstances for putting that kind of money in one.
