Inner Cowl Removal

I'm in the process of removing the inner cowl and I'm having problems cutting the spot welds along the leading edge by the firewall. I'm using a spot weld cutter, but getting in the channel above the firewall requires tilting the bit at a slight angle due to the drill hitting the cowl and not providing a good cut. If the bit was longer I could get a straight cut because the drill would be above the cowl.
Has anyone else run into this problem or have an easy suggestion on extending the cutting bit?
