Steering Column

Has anybody ever shortened a factory tilt column to get more room between the wheel and there chest. I spent the last year completely restoring my 87 stepside and I have bucket seats out of a 2012 chevy cruze in it. I am a big guy and would like some more room. I have no problem putting a floor shifter in if thats the case

Re: Steering Column

When I put a body lift on my S10 I had to move the steering column further away from the seat, because it didn't come with a shaft extension. It did come with the brackets to move it though, and it's the same type of column. You might need a shorter shaft. Might not though, they are collapsible so you don't get impaled in an accident.
