Some rear end info
Does anybody have any info on the rear end on my truck. Its a 68 long bed step side. 6cyl with 3 speed. What I'm trying to find out is possible ratio and what it can hold power wise. I'm not going for big power or anything yet. Just curious on what it can take without catastrophic failure. My plans are to pull out the 350 that is in the frame now and set on an '02 6.0 LSx with a 4L80E trans. Its a 300hp engine and with a can and tune, maybe a 350ish HP. Not wanting to go fast, just a nice cruiser.

Check out this thread I posted: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=578793 If you scroll down to post #8 the pictures will show the location of the code numbers on most rear housings..... If the rear end is in good shape and you don't beat it to death it would be fine. LockDoc

Re: Some rear end info
Thanks buddy. I'll have to do some number searching now.
I don't plan on hammering in it and beating the truck to death. I just hope to not have a 4.?? Gear. I know when these things were made, they never saw the highway or situations like we have in the modern world today. I regularly drive on the interstate. Some back roads also. Just didn't want the engine wound tight going up the highway and fear destruction. |

Re: Some rear end info
Eventually I will be doing a turbo set up but not any time soon. Probably next year. At that time I can find what rears will fit and what I need to do on fab work to make something work.

Re: Some rear end info
IF you have a stock C10 it probably has 3.73 gears unless the optional 4.11 were ordered.
