can anyone help me find the neutral safety switch/associated wiring on a 68 chev? it was orginally a 3spd manual on the column. i'm trying to find the wiring/switch but maybe it was removed by a previous owner?? if anyone knows what color wires i should look for that would be great. thanks

I DON'T BELIEVE STICK SHIFT TRUCKS CAME WITH PROVISIONS FOR A NUETRAL SAFTY SWITCH IN THE WIRING HARNESS. SOMEBODY CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, BUT I THINK THE NUETRAL SAFTY SWITCH WIRING WAS ONLY AVAILABLE ON AUTOMATIC TRANS. EQUIPPED TRUCKS. AN AESY FIX WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE UNDER DASH HARNESS WITH ONE FROM AN AUTO EQUIPPED VEHICAL. THE WIRES YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ARE PURPLE. JOHN

I agree with John, the sticks did not have the wiring setup and changing out the harness is an excellent way of getting the wiring you need.

It is possible to interrupt the large purple wire that goes to your
starter solenoid by cutting the wire, soldering in the right length pigtail with the correct plug and using that to plug onto your neutral safety switch.

I prefer John's suggestion as problems can develop with the connections as the purple wire carries a lot of current when starting the engine.

I just replaced mine.top of column close to the firewall. Automatics only.

i think i'll wire a relay or something like that to do what i need.....or just forget about it and wait till the painless harness goes in next spring.......

Yeah, I think there's a relay down next to the case for just when the transmission is in reverse. No neutral safety though.
