Bed length: is it as easy as measuring it?
Is determining the bed length as easy as measuring it? I know its a long bed, but how can I tell if its the ext. long bed or not? Can it be determined from the VIN number?

Longhorns are fleet side and have seam about 6 inches from the front of the bed. 8feet 6inches.
A 9foot step side just looks very long from cab to wheel well.

It's on the SPID. Not the VIN at least as I can recall. Worst case measure from hub to hub to check the wheelbase (115, 127, 133 I think).

Good to know, so the frame is actually longer and not just the bed?

Quote:
Yes - measure the length of the pickup box platform from the front end panel to the rear sill.

Yes, significantly longer (12 inches) between a normal longbed and a shortbed. Then the Longhorn got the extra six inches over that even.

Re: Bed length: is it as easy as measuring it?
When we converted my son's LB to a SB, we had to cut 12" out ahead of the axle and 8" off the rear. 20" total difference.
